Meal Plan: {B, L, D}
DAY 11: Lengai - Natron
Breakfast at the roof top of Oldoinyo Lengai. Since the
late 1980's, activity at Ol Doinyo Lengai has been witnessed
by many observers. The activity is usually centered in
one or more of the small cones that have been formed on
the crater floor by previous eruptions of lava. Eruptions
have typically taken the form of open lava pools or lakes
that may or may not be overflowing, lava flows issuing
from holes or cracks inside or near the base of the cones,
or lava splashes or fountains from the summit vents of
the cones. The activity is not well understood but is
thought to be a function of the plumbing of the crater,
the level of the lava within the plumbing, and the gas
content of the lava. No one knows what causes the lava
to flow out at any particular time or how the various
vents in the crater are interconnected. Mineralogists
would like to understand how the lava evolves under the
surface and why it has its unusual chemical composition,
but that also is unknown. All meals and overnight at Oldoinyo
Lengai.
Meal Plan: {B, L, D}
DAY 12: Natron - Arusha
Breakfast. Descend to the foot of the mountain where the

Crater. We walk onto our wilderness camp on the volcano's
northern flank, which offers unparalleled views of the
Serengeti's eastern plains and distant Gol Mountains.
Our overnight camp will be at Olmoti Crater Rim.

DAY
04: Embulbul Depression
Today we hike around the flank of Olmoti Mountain among
the herds of Maasai cattle, sheep and goats. The focus
of the day is a visit to one of these highland dwellings
where we will see daily life close-up. In the afternoon
we will make our way across the wide expanse of the
"Embulbul Depression," a retreat for wildlife
from the Ngorongoro Crater. Our hike continues into
the second wilderness camp situated on the knife-edge
rim of the hidden gem of the highlands, Empakaai Crater.

Continue hiking down into the Rift Valley - by now Ol'donyo
Lengai is towering above us. Cross the old lava flows
and hike towards camp set by a stream at the base of
the escarpment. Some options on this day's hike. We
can opt to hike up to the waterfalls above the camp
for a relaxing swim or to watch the baboons leaping
back and forth on the cliffs or we can climb Ol'donyo
Lengai. This is a steep 5000-ft climb and involves leaving
at 2:00am in order to reach the rim by dawn; the rewards
of seeing the sun rise over the Great Rift Valley are
incredible. Lake Natron a breeding place for all the
Flamingos in East Africa. Flamingos breed in the small
island in the middle of Lake Natron which has very high
concentration of soda that no any animal can cross the

African mammal species. Witness the magnificent array
of habitats, each with its own unique wildlife and flora.
Take time out to stretch your legs and enjoy a picnic
lunch at Ngoitokitok Springs watching the hippos jostle
for position in the water. After lunch we will proceed
with game drive until 0430pm. Overnight stay and meals
at Kudu Campsite 30 minutes drive to the crater floor.
Meal Plan: {B, L, D}
DAY
13: Lake Eyasi
We will leave after breakfast and head out towards Lake
Eyasi to visit the Hadzabe, an ancient hunter - gatherer
tribe who live in relative isolation and continue to
follow their ancient traditional ways of living. These
pygmy-like people assumed is the direct descendant of
early human beings dating 3 million years ago, live
around Lake Eyasi situated within the Great East African
Rift Valley. Should time permit, we will spend some
time with the Tatoga tribe. In the evening, we will
drive to our lodge a lovely farmhouse converted to a
lodge run by a German couple. The lodge offers fresh
foods from their farm, home cooked style. This cozy
homely lodge built within a coffee plantation overlooks
the beautiful hills and valleys of Karatu, a region
known for its coffee plantations, sugar cane and rice
fields. The beautiful well-kept gardens with a variety

After breakfast we will leave for Lake Manyara National
Park nestling at the foot of the Great Rift Valley escarpment.
We will spend the day game driving in the park and along
the lake which attracts large flocks of flamingos that,
when viewed from far away, form a pink mantle over the
lake. Elsewhere in the park there is a surprising diversity
of habitats from open grasslands to hot water springs,
river forest and swamps to rocky outcrops. The habitat
supports a fantastic array of wildlife and a magnificent
birdlife numbering over 400 species. In addition to
flamingos, the park is known for its large and boisterous
hippo population, populous groups of baboons, and several
herds of elephant, whose tempers can be a little short
as a result of the years of poaching that decimated
their number. Another phenomenon distinct to Lake Manyara
is the occasional spotting of lions on acacia trees.
Suggestions for this behavior include escaping the land
heat by catching the air breeze, avoiding the flies
or, more likely, to escape the disturbance from the
elephant and buffalo herds. Overnight stay and meals
at Twiga/Jambo/Fig Tree campsite.
Meal Plan: {B, L, D}
DAY
